Method:
- First prepare bread slices ( 2 or 3 days old bread is better ) Cut each slice into 4 pieces. Heat sufficient oil in a kadai or pan. Once oil becomes medium hot, lower the flame and add 3 or 4 pieces at a time. Fry till nice golden colour ( take care not to burn ), remove and keep in tissue paper to absorb the excess oil. Once all pieces are fried, spread over into fresh tissue papers and keep aside for 10 minutes.
- Now transfer all the fried bread pieces into a deep bowl and pour milk ( room temperature ) over it. Press and keep soaked for 10-15 minutes.
- Now heat a thick bottomed kadai. Add sugar and water. Mix well and boil till 2 string consistency. Add colour if using. Now add soaked bread slices along with milk and mix. Gently mash the pieces.
- Add cashew (break into bits), raisins and cardamom powder. Mix and cook till it comes to soft halwa consistency. Now add one tbsp of ghee (you can add more if you wish) and mix. Cook for another two minutes and switch off the flame. Delicious, melting Halwa is ready.
